Assignment Goal
Redesign an urban ecology center located on a 3 acre site by the Georgetown Reservoir. Programming to include offices and labs for researchers as well as public spaces for visitor and community use. |
Personal Intent
Encourage visitors to engage with the reservoir by drawing them up to its lip, where it sits just beyond a 20ft. berm. Offer multiple perspectives through which to view and interact with the reservoir and landscape, opening up the surrounding ecosystem and nature trails to urban encounters. |
Design Description
Research portion of the building is nestled into a berm, acts as anchor. Public gathering spaces sit atop the berm, ranging in layers of permeability, including an exterior observation deck, interior social greenhouse, and cantilevered gathering space overlooking the reservoir. |
